How can I make sure that my printing matches my original artwork?

Many pharmaceutical or security printers are very concerned that they are printing the right job. The job ticket contains all relevant information but how can they be sure that this is also being printed? Many things can go wrong between pre-press and delivery of the job and this question deals with the subject of how the inspection system can add more security to the production work flow.
Let us consider an inspection system that is mounted on the press. The camera takes images from the running web and compares them against the reference image which was taken at the beginning of the run. These images, respectively the reference image can now be transferred to the proofing station and then compared against the original artwork pdf. A proofing software like Image:Inspector will ensure data integrity and therefore provides a fully integrated solution that eliminates the need for using a scanner as an intermediate and time consuming step.
